Robert Sherman, Massage Therapist
Background
After moving to San Diego from the East Coast in 1998, Robert employed the services of a Life Coach to help him find his true passion. He had been in business-to-business sales for over 20 years and was ready for a change. Since his teens, Robert had been involved with meditation and yoga, so the transition to massage was not that great a leap. In 2001 he enrolled in a basic massage class and knew right away that this was his calling.
From Relaxation to Therapeutic
Massage clients often come to the session expecting their therapist to help with chronic pain and restrictions. For the therapist who has been taught primarily relaxation techniques, this situation can be frustrating for both the therapist and the client. Robert made a decision early on to learn everything he could to help people get out of pain as fast as possible.
"When the student is ready the teacher appears"
Robert has been blessed with caring and skilled teachers who have empowered him to help people recover from injuries and trauma as fast as possible. He has had three major transformations in his massage career that were directly related to learning three modes of therapy: Applied Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, and Ortho-Bionomy. All three allow him to find the source of the pain and then dissolve the restrictions in as gentle a manner as possible.
The Angels
A few years into his new profession, one evening after a long day of giving massages, Robert was in the massage room of a hotel in La Jolla. Just before his last client of the day, he said to himself, "I'm tired, but I've got the 'juice' for this one." Then he heard a gentle voice inside say, "Would you like us to do this one for you?" He was surpirsed but knew immediately that his spirit guide was offering to help. He answered, "Yes", and found himself doing massage moves on this client that he had never learned, seen or done before. After the massage, the client said, "Wow! That was the best massage I've ever had." To himself Robert said, "That was the best massage that I never gave!" For Robert the massage session is a spiritual event.
His beautiful wife
Robert's wife, Katherine, is a Spiritual Counselor with hospice where she helps people pass in peace. She is an angel.
